About Volunteer Services
Our Mission at Salt Lake County Volunteer Services is to engage prospective volunteers throughout our County, promote a lifestyle of volunteerism within our communities, and enhance the quality of life of our neighbors facing uncertain and challenging times.
We achieve this through partnerships with County, corporate and community organizations. Ultimately, our goal is to make a positive and lasting impact on our world.

- The 906,362 hours of volunteer service is equal to 435 full time (FTE 1.0, 40-hours per week) employees.
- Unlike previous years where the hourly volunteer value was based on a national average, the 2010 hourly value is based on the Salt Lake County hourly average of $20.55 as per the Bureau of Labor Statistics (U.S. Department of Labor).
- The value of volunteer service hours results in an estimated annual savings of approximately $30,000 in Utah State taxes and Workers’ Compensation Insurance.
- The accuracy of the 2010 volunteers and volunteer hours has been achieved through an amended web-based Volunteer Reporting System, and complies with mandatory state and Workers’ Compensation Insurance reporting requirements. Volunteer Coordinators have also had a significant role in reporting accurate volunteer counts.
