Youth and Families with Promise

Description:
Youth and Families with Promise (YFP) is a
prevention/ early intervention program for youth between the ages of 10 and
14. Youth are matched with both a young adult mentor and/ or grandmentor (s)
who help provide social support, structured activities, community
involvement, and educational improvement. This support helps youth increase
their confidence to participate and succeed.

Volunteer
Opportunities: Young Adult Mentors:
meet with assigned youth once per week for two to three hours. Mentors help
youth accomplish goals, complete service projects, plan activities, and
participate in 4-H projects. Eight month commitment required. Grand-mentors
and Mentor Couples: Couples meet with a youth and their
family two times per month. Help parents plan family activities and set
boundaries. Participate and encourage families to participate in YFP
organized Family Night Out activities once per month.
Activity Committee: Members meet two times per
month to help organize and plan family and youth activities. Members will
help facilitate games and crafts during events.
Recruitment Committee: Recruit mentors for YFP youth by making new
community contacts, working with businesses, attending recruitment events at
local colleges and universities, and doing presentations.
Office Support: assist Site Coordinators in the office by creating
activity flyers, making phone calls, putting together 4-H kits, and mailing
information and newsletters to mentors and families.
Volunteer Requirements:
*Mentors must be at least 18 years of age. *Mentors are asked to make a commitment of at least 8 months. *Background check required for all volunteers who work with youth. *YFP is open to all interested youth and mentors regardless of race, color,
sex, creed, national origin or disability.
Training and Support: YFP staff provide all volunteers with an in depth orientation. Mentor
training is provided once per month for all mentors. Volunteers have access
to resources, research, and information available through Utah State
University.
