The volunteers at our Animal Services Division assist staff  in caring for the needs of the animals in the shelter and provide education programs in the community.

Volunteer Opportunities
Licensing Assistant
The licensing assistant provides supportive licensing help for the licensing specialist by following up on expired licenses, making reminder phone calls to customers, and preparing and mailing license tags and paperwork. The licensing assistant must have excellent customer service and record keeping skills.

Field Operations Assistant
The field operations assistant works independently in the field to distribute literature regarding ordinances, including licensing, number of animals allowed per residence, etc. Field operations assistants must be able to keep detailed records regarding distribution and must be physically able to walk or move between residences while carrying the materials to be distributed. Field operations assistant should also have good customer service skills.

Door Greeter
The door greeter welcomes customers to Animal Services, directs visitors to the appropriate area of the shelter, answers basic questions, instructs customers on how to complete lost cards, etc. The door greeter must have excellent customer service skills.

Animal Care Assistant
The animal care assistant provides support to the animal care specialists. This includes helping with miscellaneous maintenance duties such as doing kennel and cattery runs, washing dishes, laundry, making litter boxes and general cleaning. Animal care assistants can also serve as kennel and cattery monitors to interact with customers and monitor customer interactions with the animals. After completing the shelter safety certificate program, hands-on animal interaction may also become a part of this position. This includes assisting staff by holding animals for health exams, walking dogs, socializing cats, grooming animals, etc.

*  Mandatory orientation

Training & Support
Orientation training required prior to commencement of volunteer activities.  Additional training provided on the job.
